Panhandle Child Placement Services is a non-profit corporation, which is licensed by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services as an institution providing child placement services*.
We currently develop and manage foster families in Amarillo and surrounding communities. We provide services for basic and therapeutic foster homes, transitional living services, and foster/adopt homes.
The Foster Child:
In general, a foster child has experienced severe family disruption. A child may have experienced physical, sexual, medical, and/or emotional abuse or neglect. She may be developmentally or socially delayed and may bring into care negative habits, attitudes, or behaviors. Panhandle Child Placement services sub-contracts with local providers who specialize in their fields to ensure that the child is receiving the best and most appropriate services. Many services are covered through STAR Health, a form of Medicaid, to all youth in foster care, including medical, dental, vision exams, individual therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Children in our program are provided a case manager who will ensure that all the child’s needs are being met including school, behavioral, emotional, and psychological.
The Foster/Adopt Family:
Our foster/adopt parents tell us that our support, along with highly educated and experienced staff, is what keeps them fostering with our agency. We thrive to be more of a family than a business.
In addition to support, we provide a variety of other services for our foster and adoptive parents. Foster/adopt parents are provided free home study, free PRIDE training, on-going training, a high level of support including 24-hour emergency support, tax-free financial reimbursement (to offset the cost of fostering), clothing reimbursement (for foster care, Basic LOC children), reimbursement for Health and Fire inspection, etc.
At Panhandle Child Placement Services, we understand that foster parents are the KEY to success. After all, foster families are with the children more than any other team member. It is very important for us to adhere to excellent child placement practices. Our case managers and developers will carefully consider a child for placement in your home. Once an appropriate fit has been made it is up to the foster family to accept placement. In this process we will provide foster families with information on the child and encourage foster parents to ask questions to ensure this is a good fit. Once placement is accepted we will work with CPS to schedule a preplacement date. During the preplacement, the child will spend 1-3 days at the home to ensure that placement is appropriate. Placement is completed after a successful preplacement and placement papers have been signed by all parties. At times there are emergency placements, where there is no time for a preplacement. It will be up to individual families if they would like to accept emergency placements.
We hope you have gained valuable information regarding our agency. We would love the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your foster/adopt options. Please contact us for further information or to schedule a tour of our organization.
